Face Off: Living Art (Season 5, Episode 7)

This week's episode of Face Off starts off with a challenge to do a modern Elvira make up. My personal favorite was Miranda Jory's. Her colors were beautiful, but the hair was a little 80's.

Not the best quality as I photographed this off the television with Justin's Ipad. lol I really wish it was clearer so you could see the colors better.

Roy Wooley won immunity from elimination with what I thought wasn't the greatest makeup (looks mannish to me). He was going for a bat theme, which caught my intention as I want to weave in a bat themed make up into our Halloween costumes this year.

For the Spotlight Challenge the artists had to chose a style of art from pop art, expressionism, cubism, surrealism, and constructivism (never even heard of this last one lol).

Frank Ippolito's Constructivism is definitely NOT my cup of tea, but I was amazed at how at certain angles the paint on his fan made it look like it was moving!

Miranda Jory's Cubism sad musician had a really good face, but she didn't do anything to the arms leaving it uncompleted looking.

The winner was Laura Tyler also portraying cubism. Her painting is just beautiful. I think she is a strong contender for the finale as are Roy and Miranda.

I would like to give kudos to everyone who pitched in to help with Tate's mold when he was taken off to get stitches after dropping a 300lb (?) clay mold on his left hand. When you are confident of your skills helping someone out in a time of need is not a threat to your place in the competition.

Respect the Chemistry

The first 8 episodes of Season 5 that we saw during 2012 were a little disappointing after 4 seasons of solid writing. Up until then, AMC’s Breaking Bad had us on the edge of our seats wondering where it would lead Walt and Jesse next. The last 4 episodes of Season 5 (2013) have made up for that. Now with 4 days left until the series finale, what do you think will happen?

Skyler White (Anna Gunn) – it is no secret I am not a big fan of Skyler’s. I think she is a total biatch and she seems to be the ruler in her household. Throughout the series she loses more and more power until she has no say in anything and is just struggling to keep her family safe. I did feel bad when Walt kidnapped Holly, but that is all she gets. LOL I think the Aryan Brotherhood are going to target her in some way that will piss off Walter and make him go all Heisenberg on them (plus they took his money!!) Not sure how they will wrap up her character.

Walter White, Jr (RJ Mitte) – Walt Jr breaks my heart. He seems to be the only pure character left in the series. Throughout the series every character seems to bend their morals, but there is no escaping the truth in Walt Jr’s “You killed Uncle Hank!” statement. I think he could have coped and dealt with anything about the Meth business, but not that. Don’t know if he will ever forgive his father.

Marie Schrader (Betsy Brandt) – another character that breaks my heart. =o( Marie is very likeable. At first she seems to have the perfect life then we find out she is a klepto (married to a DEA office no less! Lol). Very strong scene when she confronts Skylar and tells her that the only reason she is not giving up on her was because she saw how she tried to “get away” from Walt and that is her only redeeming quality. (what do you expect Skylar after you and Walt made that tape framing Hank for everything?). I am hoping Marie will find some justice for Hank.

Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) -  RIP Hank and Steven Gomez =o( Sometimes Hank was like a dog with a bone – you just cannot make him let go. Is this his strength or weakness? Had he left the Meth Empire with Gus he would still be alive. I mean Walt is going to die soon and the money would go to his family so is there really any point in taking him down? But I guess that is what made Hank Hank. Brilliant plan to lure Walt out and take you to his money. What a bad stroke of luck to taken out like that. =o(

Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) – not only is Saul hysterical, but practical. He always knows someone who knows someone to call to take care of business. I would definitely watch a Prequel around this character – will it be about all these “acquaintances” of his? Like the “cleaner” as I refer to the guy in the van who runs an underground Witness Protection type of program. Lol The “cleaner” reminds me of Harvey Keitel’s character “the Wolf” in Pulp Fiction. I digress. I think Saul really is off in Nebraska running a Cinnabon.

Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul)- oh Jesse, Jesse. What a mess. The writers really played with our hearts when they gave us hope that he could escape just to be foiled. Of course the Aryan Brotherhood had cameras (doesn’t Jesse watch Sons of Anarchy? Any “gang” has security! Lol) I feel Jessie always had a good heart, but as was mentioned on Talking Bad, he is weak so of course he didn’t escape. =o( But to be a Meth cooking slave to the Aryan Brotherhood? That is a fate worse than death. If Walt comes after the Brotherhood, Jessie could possibly escape if he waits out the chaos. Many people speculate that maybe there will be a showdown between Walt and Jesse, but I am not sure that would be a fair match. What I really would like to see is for Jessie to kill Children of the Corn Todd. That would give me extreme satisfaction. LOL

Walter White (Bryan Cranston) – Walt, you’re making it real hard to root for you. But there are things you need to do so put your Heisenberg hat on and take care of some business. From the start of Season 5 Part 2, we know that you went back to your house to get the Ricin. Is that for Lydia as someone on Talking Bad suggested? I don’t really have anything against Lydia other than she wants Skylar dead (Lydia hates loose ends) and you know Walt is going to have none of that. I do expect him to take out a good chunk of the Brotherhood and wonder what he is going to do to his former business associates from Gray Matter. I think they need to be taken down a notch or two, also. LOL I do not want a Walt – Jessie showdown. Vince Gilligan has said Walt’s character is like Scarface and we have seen his trunk full of guns so does this mean he will go down in a blaze of glory?

What are your thoughts?

Geek Manifesto

Webster defines Geek as:

geek noun \ˈgēk\

: a person who is socially awkward and unpopular : a usually intelligent person who does not fit in with other people (Traditional)

: a person who is very interested in and knows a lot about a particular field or activity (NEW!!)

So I’ve always been a bit of a geek though not in the traditional sense. Yes, I got good grades in school, but my life did not revolve around my studies. And to a certain degree I was “socially acceptable” – I say acceptable because I got along with pretty much anyone in my school: jocks, nerds, preppies (ya, I just dated myself lol), and whatever was currently considered the “in crowd”. It was more my eccentric tastes that cultivated my lone wolf tendencies. I’ve always felt that I was born 10 years too early as all my passions – Sanrio, comics, anime, stickers, paper, sci fi, fantasy, etc – are really embraced by today’s society. It’s not that they didn’t have a fan base back when I was growing up; it was just more difficult to get your grubby little hands on the “goods”. Now with a bit of plastic and a decent search engine you can have whatever you want. <3 <3 <3 I can tell many “when I was growing up we didn’t have…” stories, which I will as the fancy takes me LOL

I never felt qualified as an official geek of anything so did not feel I had the right to be a called a fangirl. For instance, there is my friend Chris who is a total Star Trek geek. In college he was a walking, talking Star Trek encyclopedia (can name all the episodes, followed the boards, even read the books). The one thing I don’t think he crossed over to was learning Klingon, but I could be wrong. LOL As much as I loved Deep Space Nine I never got into the depth that he did so did not feel I earned my Deep Space Nine stripes. The same can be said about Star Trek the Original Series, V (the original), Thundercats, Anime, Marvel, Tim Burton, Disney, Teen Titans, Pinky and the Brain, Xmen, Nintendo, Douglas Adams, Hannibal, Everquest II, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, the list goes on and on. These are a few of my favorite things (think Sound of Music singing here). Oh and all the musicals! Geekiness is not limited by topic. My hubby is a total car aficionado. Some may call him a Grease Monkey, but I call him a Car Geek. My sister puts it as being “very enthusiastic” about something – herself being a total foodie. I just say, as long as no one is getting hurt, love what you love and don’t care about what other people say! If it makes you happy … (Sheryl Crow is now in my head lol)

I have denied my geekhood for many, many years because I was no expert, but today I say Deny No More! I may not be an expert, and I’m sure some day being a geek will fall out of fashion again, but for today, I will embrace my inner geek! So without further ado, I present you this blog based on all things I love.

PS This is my first blog so please bear with me! ^ ^;;
PS2 I am not much of a writer so I apologize a head of time. ;o)
